Cognitive English Grammar 2 Edition
This book is intended to be used as a textbook in classes of English grammar and linguistics and in courses of general linguistics. The book should ideally be used with advanced undergraduate students or graduate students, i.e. with students who are familiar with the basic notions of linguistics and English grammar. It presents a balanced view of cognitive linguistic theory and selected problem areas of English grammar. Essentially, it seeks to give students a deeper insight into the nature of grammar as a human achievement and into the cognitive principles that motivate its structure.
The traditional approach to grammar focuses on forms, structures and rules. Not surprisingly, this approach tends to have a deterrent effect on students. By contrast, the cognitive approach to grammar focuses on language as a tool of conceptualisation and hence on the meaningfulness of language. Students learn to see the study of language as a fascinating and challenging field of human experience.

Teaching English: Theory and Practice from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve
Donald Gutteridge describes the unique way we read poetry and fiction and offers concrete ideas about how English can be best taught in schools. He argues that students should read literature in the same spirit in which it is written--aesthetically. Similarly, students should be encouraged to create their own stories and poems through a poetic writing process. Teaching English presents six aesthetics-based principles for teaching literature and includes sample lesson plans and annotated lists of resources. Drawing on recent work in psycholinguistics, rhetoric an learning theory, Teaching English offers a refreshing method for bringing students closer to the English language.

The English Noun Phrase: The Nature of Linguistic Categorization
How are these different noun phrases structured? How do we produce and understand them? These questions are central to this 2007 study, which explores the interaction between the form of noun phrases, their meaning, and their use. It shows how, despite the need in linguistic analysis for strict categories, many linguistic constructions in fact defy straightforward classification - and concludes that in order to fully explain the internal structure of utterances, we must first consider the communicative, pragmatic and cognitive factors that come into play. Drawing on a range of authentic examples, this book sheds light not only on the noun phrase itself but also the nature of linguistic classification.

A Living Russian Grammar with Key (Audio) CD
It responds to the needs of learners who wish to acquire the basics of communication in Russian with a correct lexical and grammatical basis. The book was tested in different versions, and improved in response to feedback from clients at CREF -students, business people, diplomats, ex-pats etc. Principles: This grammar does not purport to be a full description of the Russian language. It is a teaching and learning tool based on a selection of the most essential grammatical structures, and introducing an active and useful vocabulary. We have tried to show how linguistic elements are organized and used in real contexts. In order to keep up with contemporary linguistic research, we have tried to avoid the use of an over specialized technical vocabulary, which might confuse learners. Similarly, we have only used examples that might be considered useful at this level of study. Lastly, we have always attempted to make the learning of Russian grammar less abstract, more interesting, and more motivating. Layout: The book comprises 56 units, which allow separate research of each grammatical topic, as well as a set of grammatical tables at the end. In the units, grammatical points are explained on the left-hand pages, with live examples, and exercises to practice the language are given on the right-hand page. Certain more complex grammatical topics are split over several units. We hope that this volume will help you find pleasure and ease in acquiring the basics of everyday Russian, a language too often considered to be a difficult one to learn.
The cd giving you 4 hours 15 minutes of Russian language drills, based on the "Living Russian Grammar" book.
There are hundreds of exercises, mostly of a standard pattern with a prompt, a space for the students answer, and then a correct answer. There voices are excellent, one male and one female, and the cd follows the structure of the "Living Russian Grammar" book.
This is ideal additional material for learners who would like to perfect their Russian with maximum practice and repetition.

Due Respect: Essays on English and English-Related Creoles in the Caribbean in Honour of Professor Robert Le Page
This is the first book on Caribbean language studies to include original sections on language in education, speakers' behaviour in informal discourse and language structure. Based on sound linguistic scholarship, the thirteen chapters are organized in three sections: Pedagogical/Sociological; Structure; and Discourse.
Caribbean linguists have long been concerned that the findings of scholars in this field have been inaccessible to teachers and others interested in linguistics in the Caribbean. This book is geared for a wide audience, including school teachers, university students and teachers of linguistics in the Caribbean and the USA, and researchers on Creole languages.
