Manuel Sojer, "Reusing Open Source Code"
The reuse of existing code through their software developers is critical for firms to ensure efficient development of high-quality software. A recent facet of this topic is the increasing importance of reusing open source code which is often available free of charge via download from the internet, but brings along legal risks through its licenses. In this setting Manual Sojer empirically investigates which factors influence software developers to reuse open source code and what causes them to comply with the resulting license obligations or not.

Web Form Design: Filling in the Blanks
Luke Wroblewski has done the entire world a great favor by writing this book. Online forms are ubiquitous and ubiquitously annoying but they dont have to be. Wroblewski shows Web designers how to present forms that gather necessary information without unnecessarily badgering and annoying visitors. With deft explanations and clear examples, he presents a clear case for better Web forms and how to achieve them. This book will help you every day.
Alan Cooper, Chairman, Cooper; author, The Inmates are Running the Asylum
Web Form Design is available in full color paperback and digital (PDF) versions. Supplemental content is available on this site, and all of the books images can be downloaded from Flickr.
Web Form Design: Filling in the Blanks serves as:
The definitive guide for designing one of the most important user interface experiences online
A comprehensive view that includes many design considerations but presents them in a concise and easily applicable format
A trusted source of data driven and experience based recommendations
Who this book is for
Anyone that needs to design or develop Web forms, including usability engineers, Web developers, product managers, visual designers, interaction designers, information architects and more. Beginners will receive a broad overview of all the considerations that constitute good form design. Experienced practitioners will engage at a deeper level with issues and solutions they may or may not have encountered before.
Why you need an entire book on web form design
As arbitrators of checkout, registration, and data entry, forms are often the linchpins of successful Web applications.
Checkout forms are how eCommerce vendor's close deals they stand between people and the products or services they want and between companies and their profits. Example: eBays vast inventory (its the 30th largest economy in the World) is driven by their Sell Your Item form.
Registration forms are the gatekeepers to community membership they allow people to define their identity within social applications. All of MySpaces 150+ million users joined through a Web form.
Data input forms allow users to contribute and share and companies to grow content. All of YouTubes videos come from their Upload Your Video form.
Despite the importance of these interactions, the design of the forms that enable them is often poorly thought through. Understanding the considerations and best practices of form design will help designers, developers, and product teams of all levels of experience make better decisions about the crucial interactions that enable their Web businesses and applications.

Artificial Intelligence for Games
Creating robust artificial intelligence is one of the greatest challenges for game developers. The commercial success of a game is often dependent upon the quality of the AI, yet the engineering of AI is often begun late in the development process and is frequently misunderstood.
In this book, Ian Millington brings extensive professional experience to the problem of improving the quality of AI in games. A game developer since 1987, he was founder of Mindlathe Ltd., at the time the largest specialist AI company in gaming. Ian shows how to think about AI as an integral part of game play.
He describes numerous examples from real games and explores the underlying ideas through detailed case studies. He goes further to introduce many techniques little used by developers today. The book's CD-ROM contains a library of C++ source code and demonstration programs, and provides access to a website with a complete commercial source code library of AI algorithms and techniques.
* A comprehensive, professional tutorial and reference to implement true AI in games.
* Walks through the entire development process from beginning to end.
* Includes over 100 pseudo code examples of techniques used in commercial games, case studies for all major genres, a CD-ROM and companion website with extensive C++ source code implementations for Windows, and source code libraries for Linux and OS X available through the website.

Flash XML Applications: Use AS2 and AS3 to Create Photo Galleries, Menus, and Databases
Beginning with an introduction to XML, XML parsing methods, and a short introduction to AS2 you learn how to create a universal XML load/onload Class as well as a universal XHTML parser. Then you learn how to use Components using XML as the data source, including the menu, menubar, datagrid and tree component. Finally, a tutorial project-the design and development of a Real Estate Web site that contains an XML search engine-pulls it all together with hands-on experience.
All the applications use XML as the data source and are written as class files. Select parts of the Real Estate Web site are redeveloped in AS3 for purposes of illustration. The new XML class is presented and specific code examples demonstrate techniques to apply methods and use properties. Particular attention is paid to the differences between AS2 and AS3 and how to effectively transition from one AS version to the other.
The companion CD contains code for all of the properties and methods of the AS2, AS3, and XML class examples. Components for the Real Estate Web site project are also provided.
* Build on basic ActionScript syntax skills
* Add seamless, interactive, user-controlled delivery
