Quantum Mechanics for Electrical Engineers

Two key features make this book different from others on quantum mechanics, even those usually intended for engineers: First, after a brief introduction, much of the development is through Fourier theory, a topic that is at the heart of most electrical engineering theory. In this manner, the explanation of the quantum mechanics is rooted in the mathematics familiar to every electrical engineer. Secondly, beginning with the first chapter, simple computer programs in MATLAB are used to illustrate the principles. The programs can easily be copied and used by the reader to do the exercises at the end of the chapters or to just become more familiar with the material.
Many of the figures in this book have a title across the top. This title is the name of the MATLAB program that was used to generate that figure.

The Mechanics of the Circulation

The second part applies mechanical reasoning to the component parts of the circulation: blood, the heart, the systemic arteries, microcirculation, veins and the pulmonary circulation. Each section demonstrates how an understanding of basic mechanics enhances our understanding of the function of the circulation as a whole. This classic book is of value to students, researchers and practitioners in bioengineering, physiology and human and veterinary medicine, particularly those working in the cardiovascular field, and to engineers and physical scientists with multidisciplinary interests.

Classical Mechanics - From Newton to Einstein - A Modern Introduction, 2nd edition

This new edition of Classical Mechanics, aimed at undergraduate physics and engineering students, presents in a user-friendly style an authoritative approach to the complementary subjects of classical mechanics and relativity.
The book starts with a careful look at Newton's Laws, before applying them in one dimension to oscillations and collisions. More advanced applications, including gravitational orbits and rigid body dynamics, are discussed after the limitations of Newton's inertial frames have been highlighted through an exposition of Einstein's Special Relativity. Examples given throughout are often unusual for an elementary text, but are made accessible to the reader through discussion and diagrams.
Updates and additions for this new edition include:
New vector notation in Chapter 1
An enhanced discussion of equilibria in Chapter 2
A new section on a body falling a large distance towards a gravitational source in Chapter 2
New sections in Chapter 8 on general rotation about a fixed principal axes, simple examples of principal axes and principal moments of inertia and kinetic energy of a body rotating about a fixed axis
New sections in chapter 9: Foucault pendulum and free rotation of a rigid body; the latter including the famous tennis racquet theorem
Enhanced chapter summaries at the end of each chapter
Novel problems with numerical answers

Dynamics of Surface Waves in Coastal Waters: Wave-Current-Bottom Interactions

Dynamics of Surface Waves in Coastal Waters: Wave-Current-Bottom Interactions

Dynamics of Surface Waves in Coastal Waters: Wave-Current-Bottom Interactions by Hu Huang

S-r | 2010-01-13 | ISBN: 3540888306 | 236 pages | PDF | 17 MB

Wave motion is one of the broadest scientific subjects in nature, especially water waves in the near-shore region which present more richness and complexity of variability with respect to deep-water waves. Dynamics of Surface Waves in Coastal Waters: Wave-Current-Bottom Interactions develops the typical basic theories (e.g. mild-slope equation and shore-crested waves) and applications of water wave propagation with an emphasis on wave-current-bottom interactions and Hamiltonian systems. In recent times, the interest in water wave propagation has accelerated because of rapid developments in global coastal ocean engineering. This book lays a new foundation for coastal ocean engineering and includes numerous theories and concepts (generalized wave actions in particular), making it beneficial to physical oceanographers and engineers. The book has detailed illustrations and stimulating examples showing how the theory works, and up-to-date techniques, all of which make it accessible to a wide variety of readers, especially senior undergraduate and graduate students in fluid mechanics, coastal and ocean engineering, physical oceanography and applied mathematics. Hu Huang is a professor of fluid mechanics at Shanghai University.

Manifolds, Tensor Analysis and Applications by Ralph Abraham

The purpose of this book is to provide core material in nonlinear analysis for mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and mathematical biologists. The main goal is to provide a working knowledge of manifolds, dynamical systems, tensors, and differential forms. Some applications to Hamiltonian mechanics, fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, plasma dynamics and control theory are given using both invariant and index notation. The prerequisites required are solid undergraduate courses in linear algebra and advanced calculus.

Classical Mechanics: Theory and Mathematical Modeling

Classical mechanics is a chief example of the scientific method organizing a "complex" collection of information into theoretically rigorous, unifying principles; in this sense, mechanics represents one of the highest forms of mathematical modeling. This textbook covers standard topics of a mechanics course, namely, the mechanics of rigid bodies, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalism, stability and small oscillations, an introduction to celestial mechanics, and Hamilton

Engineering Mechanics: Statics and Dynamics

Further reinforcing the text's modern emphasis, the authors have brought engineering design considerations into selected problems where appropriate. This sensitizes students to the fact that engineering problems do not have a single answer and many different routes lead to a correct solution. Nonlinear Science and Complexity

This volume provides useful tools in Lie group analysis to solve nonlinear partial differential equations. Many of important issues in nonlinear wave dynamics and nonlinear fluid mechanics are presented: Homotopy techniques are used to obtain analytical solutions; fundamental problems and theories in classic and quantum dynamical systems are discussed; and numerous interesting results about dynamics and vibration in sensor and smart systems are presented. Interval computation and nonlinear modeling in dynamics and control are also briefly included.

Statistical Mechanics (2nd edition)

The completely revised new edition of the classical book on Statistical Mechanics covers the basic concepts of equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical physics. In addition to a deductive approach to equilibrium statistics and thermodynamics based on a single hypothesis - the form of the microcanonical density matrix - this book treats the most important elements of non-equilibrium phenomena. Intermediate calculations are presented in complete detail. Problems at the end of each chapter help students to consolidate their understanding of the material. Beyond the fundamentals, this text demonstrates the breadth of the field and its great variety of applications. Modern areas such as renormalization group theory, percolation, stochastic equations of motion and their applications to critical dynamics, kinetic theories, as well as fundamental considerations of irreversibility, are discussed. The text will be useful for advanced students of physics and other natural sciences; a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics is presumed.
